When there was no room left in hell, the dead walked... in Manchester!
In scenes reminiscent of 1970s horror film Dawn of the Dead, an astonishing number of zombies walked around the city centre's streets as these pictures and video show - all in the hope of breaking an official Guinness World Record and raising cash for charity.
The Manchester Zombie Walk held on the evening of Sunday, July 12th saw participants dressed in make-up and costumes as they wandered from the Printworks and around the city centre.
They were aiming to beat the world record - 1,270 zombies in one place at one time - set last year in Nottingham. But sadly, according to official figures, Manchester's Zombie Walk was around 160 zombies short.
Organiser Carl Whiteley said that the numbers of people who attended were much higher, with police estimating that there had been 1,500 zombies on the loose... but not everyone had registered so they couldn't be counted for the record attempt.
But he said he was pleased with how it went: "It went fantastically well. I was at the front so I couldn't see the back of the thing but mostly people were very well behaved. We only had one person who thought it was a good idea to climb on a bus."
Almost £2,000 was raised by the event which was split between four charities including Cancer Research, Children in Need, Christies and Cash for Kids.
Manchester Zombie Walk part 2 has already been planned by Carl. The return of the living dead will take place on Sunday 1st November.

The event will again be supported by Luvyababes where you will be able to get all the blood and stuff you'll need to create that perfect zombie look!
